About Katina

Katina Giesbrecht is a visual artist from Surrey, BC.  Although her studio work includes a drawing, painting (acrylics), printmaking and a variety of other media, she would describe herself primarily as a monotype artist. She has a Bachelors degree in Applied Design from Kwantlen University.

Katina has exhibited throughout the Lower Mainland. She has received awards for her art in juried exhibitions. Her work is represented at the Surrey Art Gallery Gift Shop and the Surrey Art Gallery Association Art Rental program.

My personal view on life can be seen in the subject matter of my pieces. I think life is beautiful, flawed for sure, but still beautiful. I enjoy painting fruit as delicate symbols of abundance and renewal. I’m also passionate about creating peaceful semi-realistic landscapes, places that I can imagine myself resting in. The spontaneous textural effects of monotype draw attention to my favorite subjects in a contemporary way and my use of calming colours and compositions help me find peace and rest in our fast paced world.
